The top lots in today's Autographs auction at Swann represented each of the major genres, with American presidents, writers and composers all selling well. The top lot was also the cover lot—a signed and inscribed photograph of Theodore Roosevelt wearing his Rough Rider uniform, which brought $15,600. Read more about the lot here.
A signed and inscribed first edition of F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Beautiful and Damned, with a small ink drawing, brought $12,000.
An album that contained approximately 80 signed, or signed and inscribed items by 19th and 20th century composers, musicians and conductors—including Verdi's autograph musical quotation signed from Falstaff, as well as Victor Herbert, Anton Seidl, Walter Damrosch, Moriz Rosenthal and Lilli Lehmann—sold for $11,400.
