Swann Galleries will be offering an extremely rare Civil Rights poster in its auction of Printed & Manuscript African Americana in February.

This original poster, I AM A MAN, was used in the sanitation workers' strike that drew Martin Luther King Jr. to Memphis, Tennessee the first week of April, 1968. This poster and one other, Honor King, End Racism were carried by the sanitation workers. Later that week, as King walked out onto the terrace at his motel, James Earl Ray shot and killed the prominent African-American Civil Rights activist.Labels: African-American, Civil Rights, Martin Luther King Jr., Printed and Manuscript African Americana, Wyatt H.
